Daily Digest: Thursday 3rd October
Europe
During a statement on Thursday, Andrew Bailey, the Chair of the BOE drew traders attention back to inflation, noting that a continuation of the current downtrend could lead committee members to vote on sharper interest rate action. As of August, UK inflation was 3.1% YoY, 1.1 percentage points above the banks target of 2%. September CPI data is set to release on October 16th, ahead of the BOE’s next monetary policy meet on November 7th. Bailey also highlighted that global geopolitics remains a key cause of concern for bank officials. During European trading, the FTSE 100 (FTSE) closed 8.34 points (0.10%) lower at 8,282.52, while the Pan-European STOXX 600 (STOXX) fell 4.85 points (0.93%) to 516.29.
