Daily Digest: Friday 11th October


Europe
Off the back of a strong UK GDP print, European equity performances strengthened through Friday. During September, UK economic output rose by 0.2%, in line with analyst expectations, increasing for the first time since June. The UK’s benchmark equity index, the FTSE 100 (FTSE) managed to erase Thursday’s losses, experiencing a reversal rising 15.92 points (0.19%) to 8,253.65. The Pan-European STOXX 600 (STOXX) also rallied rising 2.87 points (0.55%) to 521.98.


USA
US equities also managed to shake off Thursday’s losses as traders continued to price in the impact of September’s CPI print. The S&P 500 ($SPX) rose 34.98 points (0.61%) to 5,185.03, while the Nasdaq 100 ($NDX) rose 30.21 points (0.15%) to 20,271.98, and the Dow ($INDU) rose 409.74 points (0.97%) to 42,863.86.


Rest of the World
Japanese equities traded higher for a third consecutive session with the Nikkei 225 (¥N225) rising 224.91 points (0.57%) to 39,605.80, trading just over 200 points off its monthly highs. Meanwhile, in China, the Shanghai Composite (¥SSE) fell 84.19 points (2.55%) to 3,217.74, erasing most of the week’s gains.
